Panama, January 5, 2024 – In view of the march publicly announced by SUNTRACS and the ‘Alianza Pueblo Unido por la Vida’ for January 9, 2024, with the purpose of taking over the mining facilities, we express our deep concern.

We recognize the legitimate right to protest peacefully without causing harm to third parties and strongly condemn any act of violence. Ensuring the safety of our employees, who are currently in charge of the preservation and safe management phase at the mine site, is paramount. Therefore, we urge the competent authorities to secure the site and guarantee peace and public order to prevent any violent or illegal action.

Once again, we emphasize that all activities related to exploration, extraction and processing are halted. Following the guidelines of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI), we are committed to carry out the necessary preservation and safe management tasks to protect the environmental stability of the site and prevent possible environmental damage.

We reaffirm our willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and be part of the solution. The safety of our employees, neighboring communities and the protection of the environment remains our priority.
