Coclé, July 20, 2023 – Cobre Panamá, committed to the social and environmental development of the communities and as part of its Integral Schools Program, has been supporting the Coclé Environmental Educators group for 5 years, who every year carry out these initiatives of education and discussion of environmental issues with teachers and students of the province of Coclé.

This year they held the Environmental Forum “Water as a Challenge in the face of Climate Change”. According to Professor Dioselina Ruedas, Assistant Technical Director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Education (MEDUCA) Coclé, “the main objective of this activity is to create a space for exchange between qualified professionals, teachers and students to raise awareness of the preservation of natural resources”.

Cobre Panama facilitated the participation of representatives of the company Panama Rain Water who shared information about the Water Harvesting Program that is carried out in schools. Professor Rafael Barrera, director of the Centro de Educación Básica General Villa del Carmen, said: “Our school participates in this program and with a minimum maintenance cost of B/.140.00 per year, it is possible to have drinking water for human consumption and food preparation all year round”.

On the other hand, José Deago, from Cobre Panama’s Reforestation Program, shared with those present information on the importance of reforestation in watersheds and how reforestation helps to counteract the effect of climate change.

The Forum was attended by teachers and students from schools in the province of Cocle, some of which are located in Cobre Panama’s direct area of influence, such as Villa Carmen, Molejon, Cascajal and Rancheria.

Jaime Torrero, from Cobre Panama’s Community Education Program, said at the conclusion of the event that “as a company we are very proud to be able to make this joint effort with teachers and students, so that they can nourish themselves with knowledge and facilitate the learning process of environmental education in the educational community of Cobre Panama”.
