Panama, October 19, 2023 – Cobre Panama participated in the Municipal Council of La Pintada to deliver a piece of land of more than 4 hectares to be used as sports facilities in the township.
The estimated value of this land is B/. 341,614.14 and represents a donation from Cobre Panama in order to contribute to the development and progress of the District of La Pintada. This donation is made in the framework of the commemoration of the 175th anniversary of the founding of the district.
During the ceremony, Keith Green, Country Manager of Cobre Panama, formally handed over the deeds of the land to the Municipality of La Pintada, so that they can continue to develop various activities for the benefit of the local communities.
The mayor of the district of La Pintada, Edgar D’Angelo Rodríguez, thanked the company Cobre Panamá and assured that the use of this land will contribute positively to the sports progress of the youth of La Pintada.
Since the beginning of the project, the La Pintada District has been of vital importance to Cobre Panama, as it is located in the access area to the mine and its communities are part of the Socioeconomic Development Project based on five pillars: community relations, health and welfare, community development, education and infrastructure.
It is important to note that, as part of this development model, the district’s producers receive training, technical advice and financial guidance, which has enabled them to start up and form organized groups. Thus, the first organization of agricultural producers in the communities of Donoso and La Pintada, known as DONLAP, has been created. These producers are the main suppliers of fruits and vegetables for Cobre Panama, supplying food for more than 7,300 mine workers.
With the new contract between the State and Minera Panamá, currently under review in the National Assembly, it is contemplated that this district, as well as the districts of Donoso and Omar Torrijos, will receive direct income to carry out the social development works that the inhabitants of the area need so much.
Cobre Panama maintains a strong commitment to neighboring communities and works hard to contribute to their well-being and development.
