Cobre Panama present at the British Business Forum

– This is a space for members of the British Chamber and businessmen in general to discuss issues of great national relevance.
Panama, October 20, 2023 – The British Business Forum, organized by the British Chamber of Commerce under the theme “Challenges and Perspectives: Panama 2024-2029”, was held in Panama City. This event became a platform for discussing business opportunities with the support of Cobre Panama.
During the Forum, the current situation of the country was analyzed and the challenges and perspectives that Panama will face in the next five years were discussed. The keynote speaker was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Janaina Tewaney.
Three panel discussions were also held to address the Economic, Social and Political Perspectives 2024-2029; the challenges of competitiveness in Panama; and the opportunities and challenges of the Panama Canal.
Cobre Panama represents the largest private foreign investment ever made in Panama, not only a mine, but also an industrial complex that includes a power generation plant, an international port and one of the largest processing plants in the world.
With the new contract, an increase in income from royalties and taxes for Panama is expected over the next 20 years, which in 2022 alone is estimated at more than 1.6 billion in direct contributions. As well as the continuity of social investment through various programs, benefiting more than 22 communities near the mine. In addition, Cobre Panama is committed to environmental protection, with projects for the conservation of protected areas and wildlife, as well as an extensive reforestation and environmental compensation program, the largest developed by a private company in the country.
Cobre Panama is also preparing to implement its climate change mitigation strategy, establishing a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 and a 50% reduction by 2030.
