Panama, October 02, 2023 -Under the slogan “Tourism Panama, engine of economic development and communities”, the National Tourism Convention, CONATUR 2023, was held with the support of Cobre Panama.
This activity, which promotes training in the tourism sector, aims to reactivate and strengthen the tourism offer in our country.
Representatives of Aventuras Turísticas de la Región del Atlántico (ATUR), a group created by the Coclesito Tourist Guides, with the support of Cobre Panama, participated in this Convention to promote the development of community and sustainable tourism in that area.
Coclesito, located in the district of Omar Torrijos, in the province of Colon, is a site of great natural wealth, where visitors can engage in activities such as hiking, visiting agro-tourism farms, buffalo rides, bird watching and shopping for handicrafts, among others.
Miguel Jaén, Cobre Panamá’s Community Affairs Manager, stated that “For Cobre Panamá, the development of other economic sectors in the region surrounding the mine is important. Our interest is that the communities near our operations grow with us, in a sustainable manner.”
For Sofía Bernal, ATUR representative, “Cobre Panamá has given us the opportunity to participate in this Convention, where we have been able to make contacts and promote sustainable tourism in our region. Coclesito is a place with many tourist areas and natural resources. It is very good for the region to be able to promote these sites”.
In addition, the company promoted La Granja Alternativa, located in the same region, a rural project that offers various activities such as agro-thematic trails, canoe rides, coffee tours, home garden tours and buffalo tours, among others. The company has also promoted the development of agrotourism farms in the Llano Norte de La Pintada district.
Cobre Panama, as part of its Socioeconomic Development Program, contributes to the development of sustainable tourism in the communities near the mine.
