Panama, August 04, 2023 – As part of its commitment to promote the education of Panamanian children and young people, especially in the STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), Cobre Panama became the sponsor of young Tatiana Cedeño, an eleventh grader at the Carmen Conte Lombardo Institute in Penonomé, who will participate in the “She is an Astronaut” program of the She is Foundation.
Thanks to this support from Cobre Panama, 16-year-old Tatiana Cedeño will have the opportunity to travel to NASA’s Space Center in Houston. Here, participants will participate in robotics, programming, rocket construction, mission organization, lunar habitat creation and talks with experts in flight management and space travel simulation. “This experience will give me the opportunity to discover my skills and enhance them to the fullest. I want to motivate the girls and tell them that it is possible to achieve everything they set their minds to,” said Tatiana.
According to Alberto Casas, Cobre Panama’s Community Affairs Director, “We have been supporting education in Panama for 12 years and being part of this program reinforces our commitment to education.” “We are confident that by supporting education we will go a long way.”
The “Ella Es Astronauta” program was launched in 2019 in partnership with the Space Center Houston and is the first Spanish-speaking program, which aims to empower girls and adolescents in vulnerable conditions to become leaders and agents of change in their communities, through their experiences and development of new skills.
“By joining this program, organizations are catalysts for change, shaping generations of girls and women who face the technological and scientific challenges of the future,” highlighted Nadia Sanchez, CEO & founder of She Is.
The She Is Foundation was founded in 2016 by Nadia Sanchez and over the past 6 years, has benefited more than 16,000 girls and women across Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and now in Panama.
