– The pintao hat is a typical and traditional Panamanian accessory, handmade with natural fibers and pigments
– These hats are mostly made in the province of Cocle.
Panama, October 6, 2023 – Cobre Panama, committed to preserving Panamanian traditions and promoting the culture of the provinces near the mine, has supported the Pintao Hat Festival since its inception and, this year, will sponsor the eleventh version of this important festival, to be held from October 21 to 23 in La Pintada, Cocle province.
During this cultural activity, there will be hat and tamborito contests, a parade of carts and an academic symposium called “Sombrero Pintao, Cultural Heritage”.
The making of pintao hats is one of the sources of income for many families in the region and this Festival becomes a great opportunity to increase their sales.
Artisans, natives of La Pintada, make this garment with their hands and keep alive a tradition that has been passed from generation to generation and that begins with the process of preparing the materials, mostly natural fibers and pigments.
Through the Socioeconomic Development Program of Cobre Panama’s Community Affairs office, these activities are promoted to contribute to integral education through the preservation of regional customs and traditions.
