Cobre Panama continues to benefit community students through scholarships

– As part of the “Cobre Panamá Crece Contigo” Program, students received the first and second payments of the 2023 scholarships.
– This scholarship program benefits about 200 students from the communities near the mine.

Panamá, September 21, 2023 – Students from the community of Villa del Carmen de Llano Norte de la Pintada, province of Coclé, received the first and second payments of the scholarships corresponding to the 2023 period. These scholarships are part of the “Cobre Panamá Crece Contigo” Program, which has been implemented by the Private Sector Council for Educational Assistance (COSPAE) for more than 10 years.

Some 40 students from the communities of Nuevo Eden, Nueva Lucha and Sinai, who attend middle and high school, are some of the beneficiaries of this Cobre Panama program, which aims to promote integral development in these remote indigenous communities.

Edilsa Guerra, a scholarship student from the indigenous community of Nuevo Sinai, said: “I am happy to receive this scholarship and I will use it to help my family and for school expenses, I want to continue with my scholarship to become an architect”.

The “Cobre Panamá Crece Contigo” program selects students from the provinces of Colón and Coclé through contests and currently benefits some 212 scholarship recipients, of which 132 are women and 80 are men, who must maintain an academic index of 4.0.

This program also benefits university students. So far this year, 8 scholarship recipients have completed their studies and 36 more will do so by the end of the year, for a total of 44 new professionals.

Cobre Panama reaffirms its commitment to education through this scholarship program, which has benefited more than 3,800 students from elementary school through university.
