Panama City, Panama. December 9, 2023 – Cobre Panama wishes to express its concern about the ongoing illegal blockade of the mine’s road accesses and the international port of Punta Rincón. This has prevented the delivery of equipment and supplies necessary to maintain the environmental stability of the site, whose productive operational work has ceased and is under Environmental Stability and Asset Integrity Measures.

Without these supplies, environmental management of the site will soon become increasingly difficult and could result in potentially significant environmental effects.

On December 6, the company received a formal notification from the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, urging it to “terminate the extraction, processing, benefit, transport, export and commercialization operations, as well as mining activities in general, and indivisibly take the necessary and reasonable measures and provisions to maintain the safety of the facilities and avoid environmental damage, losses or damages within the mining area”.

In order for the company to maintain compliance and avoid environmental damage, the access road to the mine and the international port must be cleared as a matter of urgency and law and order must be restored. The Company requests assistance from the authorities, in accordance with national regulations and international treaties, to enable the Company to comply with the above request for which it requires to receive critical supplies.

Cobre Panama reiterates its willingness to be part of the solution and to open a constructive dialogue.
