Panama, August 23, 2023 – As part of its commitment to promote the education of Panamanian children and young people, especially in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) disciplines, Cobre Panama became the sponsor of young Kareymis Alarcón from the José Guardia Vega School in Colón, who will participate in the “She is an Astronaut” program of the She is Foundation.
Thanks to this support from Cobre Panama, Kareymis Alarcón will have the opportunity to travel to the NASA Space Center in Houston. Here the participants will carry out robotics activities, programming, rocket construction, mission organization, creation of lunar habitat and talks with experts in flight management and space travel simulation. “It’s the first time I’m going to travel, I’m very excited about it. I want to make it all the way to Mars if possible,” expressed Kareymis.
According to Alberto Casas, Cobre Panama’s Community Affairs Director, “We have been supporting education in Panama for 12 years and being part of this program reinforces our commitment to education. It is very exciting to see Kareymis’ reaction when she received the news and the parents’ happiness for her success”.
The “Ella Es Astronauta” program was launched in 2019 in partnership with the Space Center Houston and is the first Spanish-speaking program that aims to empower girls and adolescents in vulnerable conditions to become leaders and agents of change in their communities, through their experiences and the development of new skills.
